Last Monday, I shared some ideas for learning in Lake County and having fun doing it. My previous post featured classes in art, technology, music, cooking, and archery. Some of those classes were offered for no charge while others charged for attendance while including materials. Let's see if we can add to the list of ways you can have fun learning in Lake County Florida this week!


  • Alison is a free online learning platform that provides free learning in many topics that you can study anywhere at any time. Course categories include IT, language, science, health, humanities, business, math, marketing, lifestyle, software development, health care, life sciences, operations, software engineering, finance, and skilled trades. There are certificate courses, diploma courses, and various learning paths that you can choose to follow. Courses are also provided for specific jobs. There are over 1,000 courses available and they are all free to complete.

  • Eustis Yoga offers a variety of classes for women and men of all ages and ability levels. You'll attend a class at their peaceful, beautiful center in Eustis that encourages renewal and inner focus. Classes offered this month include gentle yoga, Vinyasa yoga, yoga for all, and Sivananda yoga. A single class is $15 or $10 with a valid student ID. A seven class pack that must be used within three months is $75 or $60 with a student ID. One month of unlimited classes is $90. If you prefer private lessons, they are available for $60 for an hour or $80 for ninety minutes.


  • GCF Global offers free learning opportunities online. You can learn Microsoft Office, basic computing skills, internet skills, Google topics (gmail, Google docs, Google sheets), work & career skills (career planning, resume writing, job searching), skills for today (adapting to change, freelance work, personal finance, decision making), creativing & design (graphic design, photography, image editing), and core skills (math, reading, grammar, language).

  • Home Depot offers various workshops at each location. Leesburg, Lady Lake, and Clermont upcoming topics include installing a tile backsplash and heart string art (children). You can register for classes online.


  • Lowes offers Do It Yourself Workshops at each location. Leesburg, Wildwood, Lady Lake, Mount Dora, & Clermont topics include installing crown moulding / baseboards / quarter rounds, making a love note holder (children), and building a tabletop basketball game (children). You can register online.


  • The National Training Center, part of Orlando Health, in Clermont, takes fitness and sports training to a whole new level. You can become a member for $20.20 and they offer a variety of short and long term membership options (call to discuss - prices not easily found online). They offer a 37,000 square foot fitness center that offers fitness, health, and wellness programs for every level of fitness. Members will have access to fitness classes and personal trainers plus top of the line fitness equipment. The aquatic center offers swim lessons and triathlon training. There are athletic fields, a track & field complex, and a cross country course. Classes include cycling, yoga, muscle force, deep circuit, pilates, step, zumba, and more.

  • Open Culture offers free online courses from top universities, free movies, free audio books that you can download, free eBooks for iPad, Kindle, & other devices, free language learning classes, and free educational resources for children. You'll find classes in many subjects including art, astronomy, business, computers, economics, history, literature, math, psychology, writing & journalism, and more.


  • Still Lake Yoga in Clermont presents a welcoming studio that is dedicated to the art and science of yoga. People of any body type or fitness level can enjoy their classes and reap the many benefits. Workshops include an Introduction to Pranayama (2+ hours, $50), Chakra yoga (2+ hours, $50), and 5 Elements & 6 Healing Sounds (2+ hours, $50). They do certifications in Reiki, Singing Bowls, and Aumakhua-Ki Energy Balancing. Regularly scheduled classes include chair yoga, yoga for all, power yoga, sunrise yoga, and gentle yoga. A single class is $15 or $10 for students, military, or seniors aged 55+. A seven class pass is $85 or $60 with a student ID. A new student one month pass is $45. A one month unlimited pass is $95 or $70 with a student ID. They also offer retreats and private classes and request you inquire if you are interested.

  • The YMCA of Central Florida offers various types of memberships including adult, family, seniors, teens, or young adults. Becoming a member gives you access to state of the art cardio and weight training equipment, exercise classes, and pools. You'll have access to a virtual chef, be able to take advantage of free child development, and you'll be able to access all 18 facilities in Central Florida without paying an annual fee. Currently offered exercise sessions include muscle conditioning, yoga, basic fitness, yang tai chi, adult pick up pickleball, cardio cycling, silver sneakers, pilates, boot camp, taekwondo, zumba, and more. There are shallow water fitness classes, aqua zumba, deep water fitness, and open swimming times with lanes available. The monthly fee is $52 for one adult or $71 for two adults in the same household. If seniors, the rate is $44 for one or $62 for two in the same household. Student memberships for ages 12-22 are $39. A family membership includes 2 adults and dependents up to age $23 for $82 a month. You can add on sessions with a personal trainer for $23 per half hour or $45 per full hour, with discounts for booking multiple sessions.
