I'm definitely a fan of Lake County, but you may be asking yourself, "Why do I want to live in Lake County?" There are plenty of reasons - read on!
Location, Location, Location! Lake County is within about 50 miles of all of the Orlando attractions (Disneyworld - Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, plus Sea World & Universal Studios). Another great feature is the distance to both coasts - you're within 75 miles of both coasts in Florida!
Plenty of Lakes - there are over 1,000 lakes here in Lake County. Some of the larger lakes you can enjoy are Lake Harris (over 15,000 acres), Lake Griffin (9,400 acres), Lake Eustis (7,900 acres), Lake Dora (4,400 acres), Lake Yale (4,000 acres), and Little Lake Harris (3,400 acres). The Harris Chain of Lakes features great boating and fishing. In fact, the bass fishing is so good that tournaments are held here including Cabela's Big Bass Tour, Bass Pro Shops BassPro.Com Eastern Open, and the FLW (Fishing League Worldwide) Tournament.
Outdoor Activities - if you enjoy being outside, Lake County has plenty of options for you! A few nice options for taking a walk or a bike ride include PEAR Park in Leesburg, Paisley Woods Bicycle Trail in Paisley, General James A. Van Fleet State Trail in Clermont, and The Palm Island Boardwalk in Mount Dora.
Indoor Activities - maybe you prefer the indoors. If so, Lake County has you covered! You can bowl at AMF Leesburg, Break Point Alley in Tavares, Spanish Springs Lanes in The Villages, Triangle Lanes in Mount Dora, or The Clermont Bowling Center. Both roller and ice skaters have options in Leesburg at Skateworld and Winterland Adventures. Catch a movie at the AMC Lake Square in Leesburg, Epic Theatres in Mount Dora or Epic Theatres in Clermont, or at one of The Villages Town Center Movie Theatres (Barnstorm, Old Mill Playhouse, or Rialto). In addition, the area offers art galleries, museums, performing arts, wineries, antiquing, shopping, and more.
Dining Options - if you’re craving something, chances are you can find it in Lake County! If you’re looking for fine dining options, consider one of the restaurants at The Mission Inn in Howey in the Hills or The Rose Plantation in Fruitland Park. Waterfront dining options include The Blackwater Inn in Astor or The Hurricane Dockside Grill in Tavares. Casual dining can be enjoyed at The Oakwood Smokehouse in Leesburg, Eustis, Clermont, Lady Lake, & Wildwood, or at Billy’s Cafe in Tavares. These are just a few suggestions. There are plenty of additional dining choices in the area.
