Friday, January 24, 2020:
Are you an artist or are you interested in art? The Leesburg Center for the Arts is hosting Art Create Friday (formerly called Open Studio) from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon. Join with fellow artists for a combination of a project based "open studio" concept and a "come as you are and create what you want" space. Share tips and techniques and have fun at this free event for members and their guests. Afterwards, stick around for Coffee & Convos in the Gallery from 12:00 noon - 1:30 pm to discuss Altered Dolls (the importance of personal narrative and the integration of new thought through the fun of altered doll making).
Consider attending the Bob Ross Style Painting Class at the Artrageous Art Gallery from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. You'll create and complete a beautiful birch tree forest scene using Bob Ross painting techniques taught by a certified instructor. The class is $55 per person including supplies. Reserve your spot in advance by calling the gallery.
It's the fourth Friday of the month, so that means that Eustis is having its Classic Car Cruise In from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. You'll enjoy viewing classic and exotic cars on display in downtown Eustis, plus many bars and restaurants will be open. This free event is hosted by the Eustis Business Alliance.
The City of Groveland presents Friday Night Done Right from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. This free event is open to all Lake County middle and high school students. They stress no alcohol and no dope and they focus on things teens would prefer to do on a Friday night rather than drink or do drugs. Activities have included a rock climbing wall, laser tag, and bumper ball.
The Leesburg Center for the Arts is also featuring a three hour Activity class from 6:00 - 9:00 pm called Silk & Sip with Yvonne Feavearyear where students create a silk painting of their choice on a 10" stretched silk disc while enjoying their favorite libations and snacks. The class includes all materials, stretched silk, brushes, dyes, stencils, patterns, and designs. They say they provide the SILK and you provide the SIP - $40 for members or $45 for non-members. Beginning at 7:00 pm, Mount Dora Plaza Live is hosting Dueling Pianos, with two baby grand pianos facing each other. The piano players will put on an all request show: 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, or current, country or rock & roll. Doors open at 6:00 pm on the 2nd & 4th Friday of the month for this free show with a cash bar. Sing-along, dance-along, and thump-the-tables!
Friday, January 24, 2020 - Saturday, January 25, 2020:
The Lake Firefighter Charity and Gator Harley Davidson present Central Florida's Premier Two Day Food Event including a BBQ Competition and a Chili Cook Off. Setup begins on Friday at 7:00 am, bars open at noon, and meat inspection and the cooking kickoff begins at noon. Food and vendors open at 4:00 pm, various competitions take place throughout the day, live music begins at 5:00 pm, and it all goes quiet at 11:00 pm on Friday. On Saturday, the Backdraft Grill opens for breakfast at 7:00 am, competitions take place throughout the day, live music begins at 10:45 am, bars open at 11:00 am, pork is served to the public beginning at 2:00 pm, and live music continues from 2:30 - 6:00 pm. Cooking teams can enter online for their share of $3,500 in prize money. Advanced tickets can be purchased online for $10.
Friday, January 24, 2020 - Sunday, January 26, 2020:
The Bay Street Players in Eustis present The Fantasticks on Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm and on Sunday at 2:30 pm. If you can't attend this weekend, the show continues through Sunday, February 16, 2020. Here's a description from their website: "A whimsical, poignant, and romantic production is an allegorical story that focuses on two young lovers, their meddling fathers, and the journey we all must take through adolescent thrills: the growing pains of hurt and betrayal, the highs of passion, the challenges of distance, and the agonies of heartbreak to discover how to truly love." Tickets are $11 with student ID or $21 for adults and can be purchased on their website.
The Melon Patch Theatre in Leesburg presents Baskerville on Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm and on Sunday at 2:00 pm. The show continues through February 9 if you can't attend this weekend. This is a transformation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic The Hound of the Baskervilles into a murderously funny adventure, and Sherlock Holmes is on the case. Watch as investigators try to escape a dizzying web of clues, silly accents, disguises, and deceit as five actors portray more than forty characters. Tickets are $10 with student ID or $20 for adults and can be purchased on their website.
The Moonlight Players Theatre in Clermont presents The Drowsy Chaperone on Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm and on Sunday at 2:30 pm. When Mrs. Tottenham hosts the wedding of the year, she gets a lot more than a write-up in the society pages: Janet Van de Graaff, glittering starlet of Feldzieg's Follies, is leaving the stage for love. Hijinks ensue." Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students, or $10 for children and can be purchased on their website.
Saturday, January 25, 2020:
The City of Eustis is hosting Family Fun Day from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at Palmetto Point Park. This free event will feature pony rides, laser tag, a video arcade, kite flying, face painting, balloon animals, bounce houses, food, vendors, and more.
If you love the music of Meatloaf, come and see Rock & Roll Dreams - Meatloaf, where Benny Israel captures Meatloaf's powerful, wide ranging operatic vocals. You'll get to enjoy the epic theatrical show that Meatloaf's fans have come to love. The doors open at 6:00 pm for the 7:00 show. Tickets are $20.00 - $35.00 per person and there is a cash bar. Sunday, January 26, 2020:
The Ukulele & Guitar Club meets today from 1:00 - 2:30 pm at the Leesburg Center for the Arts. Join with fellow ukulele and guitar enthusiasts and have fun playing with others. Players of all ages are welcome and should be at the level of advanced beginner or above. Singing will take place too, and music will range from traditional to contemporary. To become a member of the club, purchase an individual membership with the Leesburg Center for the Arts for $30 year. Bring your ukulele or guitar and a music stand. Feel free to visit a time or two before deciding if you want to join the club. The club meets on the second Sunday of the month.
