Space Saving Tips for Small Homes

Space saving tips for small rentals, homes, and apartments

Last week, I did a post on ways you can save space in a small apartment. That post pointed you towards space saving hangers / clothes groupers, over the door shoe organizers (that had a lot of uses besides for just storing shoes... check it out!), and expandable / adjustable pot and pan organizers. This week, we'll continue looking at relatively inexpensive items that can help you save space in a small area.

Before we start looking at products, are you a member of Amazon Prime? Here's a 30 Day Free Trial Offer that includes unlimited two day shipping with no minimum order size. It also gives you other Prime perks including the ability to instantly watch thousands of movies and TV episodes plus you can borrow Kindle books. The free shipping is why I always have a membership to Amazon Prime. After the free 30 days, Prime runs $12.99 per month or $119 per year. If you happen to be a Student, there is a free 6 Month Prime Student Trial Offer that also provides the free unlimited two day shipping with no minimum order size. After the free 6 month trial, students can continue for $6.49 a month or $59 per year. I've gotten to the point that I do a lot of my shopping through Amazon Prime, so I can totally justify paying for membership. If you don't, consider taking advantage of the free trial and then cancel before you are scheduled to be billed. Prime really comes in handy at the holidays - lots of great deals that you can have sent right to you!

Corner Shelves - easy to assemble & inexpensive!

The Furinno Turn-N-Tube is listed as the best selling corner shelves by Amazon. They are rated as being a 4.3 out of 5 stars, there are over 3,900 reviews, and 207 questions have been answered about them online. If you are looking for a corner shelf with three, four, or five shelves, this may be what you need. They come in 16 different color options, are made of particle board and PVC tubes, and are easy to put together with no tools needed. They say the small size of their products makes them an excellent choice for apartments and dorms, but they would work well in any small space you have. When assembled, the five tier corner shelf measures 57.7" high, a width and length of 11.6" inches, and an approximate weight of 9 pounds. The five tier shelves (depending on your color choice) range in price from $16.99 (Dark Walnut) up to $36.29 (Sonoma Oak & White). Shelves are also available in three or four shelves. If you have a corner that doesn't offer a lot of space, this could be great for holding some decorative items. In reading some of the reviews, people say not to overload the shelves with too much weight.

Set of Two End Tables - great for small areas & reasonably priced!

If you're looking for inexpensive end tables or possibly something you could use as a nightstand, these Furinno Simplistic End Tables are an interesting option. They come in sets of two and you have two table levels - top & bottom. They're made of composite wood and PVC and are easy to assemble with no tools. Once assembled, they measure 19.6" high, 15.6" wide, and 15.6" deep. Each shelf can hold up to 10 pounds. Prices range (for a set of two tables) from $23.72 (French Oak Grey / Grey) up to $37.93 (Sonoma Oak / White). They are rated at a 4 out of 5 stars. Make sure you check over them once you receive them if you order, as others have mentioned receiving products with chips or scratches (for me, Amazon has been great about exchanging damaged items - just contact them if necessary). When you're trying to get set up and want to do it inexpensively, these seem like a good deal for the money.

Four Bin System Rack - gain some storage without spending a mint!

I never seem to have enough storage space, but this might be the answer I need. Furinno also makes a 4 bin system rack that ranges in price from $15.73 (Oak / Black / Light Brown) to $20.09 (Espresso / Black). Again, they say these items are easy to put together without tools. It's made of composite wood and a high density non-woven fabric. When assembled, it measures 28.8" high, 11.3" wide, and 7.7" deep. It's small, but if you're looking for a place to store small toys like Legos, arts & crafts supplies, or DVD's, this could work for you without setting you back too much!

All of the items in today's post ship free with Amazon Prime. Happy shopping!
